Because of the Covid-19 pandemic and all its consequences, Apple would consider postponing the release of its new flagship in October or even late November.

When Will the iPhone 12 be Released?

Despite a predictable release schedule since 2011, according to the DigiTimes site, Apple would postpone the launch of its iPhone 12 in October, instead of September.

On the other hand, according to information reported by Goldman Sachs, the investment bank behind the Apple Card, the iPhone 12 may not be released until November 2020.

4 New iPhone for 2020

Like every year, Apple is preparing a new generation of iPhones for the end of the year. In 2020, we should see the iPhone 12 rangeland to replace the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro of 2019.

Apple is rumored to be working on 4 new models, two versions of the iPhone 12 on the one hand, and two versions of the iPhone 12 Pro on the other.

What Will iPhone 12 Look Like?

For Apple, the iPhone 12 will be a nostalgic design backlash. All rumors and leaks agree that the smartphone will offer a design reminiscent of the iPhone 4, with straight edges. The borders around the screen would be much thinner, and the screen would now be completely flat. The notch above the screen would be refined.

This statement is due first to Ming-Chi Kuo in September 2019, but also to Bloomberg sources and finally to those of Max Weinbach. It is to the latter that we owe the first images of the design from the CAD plans of the phone.

Will it Have USB-C Port?

No, iPhone 12 should have a Lightning port, but no USB-C port.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, it will take until 2021 for Apple to abandon its Lightning connector, without replacing it.

Will it Have Notch?

Yes, the screen of the iPhone 12 should continue to offer a notch to house the sensors necessary for Face ID.

The iPhone notch has, despite itself, become an integral part of Apple design. Many hate it, yet it hosts a number of important sensors like those of Face ID.

However, for the first time since the iPhone X in 2017, the notch would be much narrower, and therefore less prominent. Note that some are betting on a return of the Touch ID fingerprint reader but this time being placed behind the screen. This is an interesting track, but to be considered with tweezers.

A 120 Hz OLED Screen

The big trend in the Android smartphone market screens at 90 Hz or higher. This is something Apple already offers on its iPad Pro with 120 Hz screens that allow for a much smoother display of the interface.

According to several sources, it is with the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max that Apple should switch to a 120 Hz screen on its phones with the same ProMotion technology as on the iPad. This should also allow the brand to continue demarcation between its Pro models and its more accessible models.

Indeed, the iPhone 12 should also be entitled to an OLED screen this year, but only at 60 Hz. Apple would, therefore, reserve the LCD only for the iPhone SE 2020 Verion.

Apple A14 Bionic Chip in 5 NM

The new generation of phones will also come with a new processor. The Apple A13 SoC should logically give way to an Apple A14 Bionic chip whose production would still be the responsibility of TSMC.

The new chip has an engraving fineness in 5 nm, which allows a performance jump of 15% compared to the 7 nm process used before.

The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max should be entitled to 6 GB of RAM, while the other two models would be limited to 4 GB.

Will it Be 5G Compatible?

Yes, all 4 iPhone 12 models would be 5G compatible. Be careful, they should only handle 5G SUB-6, not the millimeter bands.

For the first time in several years, Apple would use Qualcomm for the iPhone modem. This should allow it to offer more performance compared to the Intel models used in Europe so far.

However, Apple would not have been convinced by the 5G antennas offered by Qualcomm and would, therefore, have designed its own antennas in-house. The antenna bands would be wider and more visible on the iPhone 12 than on the iPhone 11.

Lidar Camera is Arriving

Apple has integrated a Lidar sensor into the iPad Pro 2020. It allows the photo module to better manage depths and understand its 3D environment up to 20 meters away.

This new sensor should also make its arrival on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. This information came from an iOS 14 leak.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max are expected to continue to incorporate the same pair of two photosensors (wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle) as the iPhone 11.

What Price Will it Be?

If we follow the price of the previous generation, the iPhone 12 should have a price of around 900 $, while it will take more than 1200 $for the iPhone 12 Pro.

However, the transition to 5G could allow Apple to justify a further increase in the prices of its phones.
