With the Reno 2, the OPPO brand offers an alternative to high-end smartphones, with an interesting value for money and a remarkable technical record. In this review of OPPO Reno 2, we invite you to discover the advantages of this mobile.
Like Xiaomi, the Chinese brand OPPO specializes in high-end killer smartphones, with excellent design, interesting technical sheets, but whose prices are more affordable than premium products from brands like Apple or Samsung.
OpPO Reno 2 is, in our opinion, a perfect illustration of this strategy. The camera has a special design, with its notch-less screen and its front-hand pop-up camera in the shape of a fin. On the back, the OPPO Reno 2 has 4 cameras. And under the hood, there’s a processor optimized for video games. The price is very reasonable.
OPPO Reno2 was unveiled in Europe in October 2019. “These devices are equipped with the cutting-edge camera and video innovations that allow users to capture the whole action like a professional. The design offers a truly immersive and elegant experience, while always keeping the customer experience in mind, we have designed these devices to meet not only their daily needs, but also their life choices. The Reno2 series will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in a smartphone through this fusion of technology, art and design and we expect it to be welcomed by our European consumers,” said Alen Wu, Vice President of OPPO Global, at the presentation of OPPO Reno 2 (and OPPO Reno 2 Z).
OPPO Reno 2 Design
We start this review on OPPO Reno 2 with the design. This is an area in which OPPO excels. Therefore, it is not surprising that this model has a very elegant overall appearance. The screen is borderless and unlike models like the Galaxy Note 10Â or iPhone 11, the OPPO Reno 2 has no holes drilled on the screen, no notch.
Indeed, the front camera is placed on a pop-up element that only appears when needed. The opening time is 0.8 seconds and the mechanism has a fall protection system. This pop-up camera stands out from other smartphones like the OnePlus 7 Pro, thanks to its fin shape.
The back of the OPPO Reno 2, curved at the sides, has an iridescent finish and is covered by Gorilla Glass 5. The sensors on the back are covered by the glass slab, so we have a flat and continuous surface.
Screen size and performance
The screen is, in our opinion, one of the main assets of OPPO Reno 2. Indeed, since there is no notch, this one is completely clear. Moreover, the device has a screen ratio of 93.1%, which means that the screen occupies 93.1% of the surface of the façade.
OPPO’s AMOLED Reno 2 has a 6.5-inch diagonal, with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels.
Colors of OPPO Reno 2 :
OpPO Reno 2 is available in two colors: Luminous Black and Ocean Blue.
Dimensions and Weight of the Device :
The OPPO Reno 2 has a height of 160 mm, a width of 74.3 mm and a thickness of 9.5 mm. Its weight is 189 g.
OPPO Reno 2 Technical Features:
Although not equipped with a high-end SoC, the OPPO Reno 2 should not pose any performance problems. The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 730G, presented by Qualcomm in April 2019. This is a mid-range SoC, but has been configured to offer good performance, especially for video games. The Snapdragon 730G has also been optimized for photography and artificial intelligence, all while minimizing energy consumption.
On the Reno 2, the SoC Snapdragon 730G is coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage.
The OPPO Reno 2 is also equipped with an artificial intelligence chip (NPU).
The fingerprint scanner is integrated into the screen and the smartphone supports the LTE.
And on the software side, OPPO Reno 2 uses ColorOS, an Android-based operating system.
Camera and Image Processing :
OpPO Reno 2 should, in our opinion, capture excellent photos and videos. On the back, the smartphone is equipped with 4 cameras: a 48-megapixel main sensor (Sony IMX586, 1/2.0 sensor, F/1.7 aperture, Optical Stabilization), a 13-megapixel telephoto lens (1/3.4 sensor, F/2.4 aperture, Auto focus), an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens (116 degrees, 1/3.2″) and a 2-megapixel portrait sensor. The OPPO Reno 2 benefits from a hybrid x5 zoom and a digital x20 zoom.

On the front, we have a 16-megapixel sensor.
And of course, OPPO uses artificial intelligence to optimize photos.
Fast Battery and Recharge :
The OPPO Reno 2 uses a 4,000 mAh battery that allows for a battery life equivalent to 13 hours of streaming video. In addition, VOOC 3.0 can be recharged at 51% in just 30 minutes with fast charging.
OPPO Reno 2 Price :
Although it has an attractive technical record, the OPPO Reno 2 is reasonably priced. The recommended price of the model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is 499 euros.

The OPPO Reno 2 has an excellent design, a screen without notches, 4 cameras on the back and a very good autonomy. In essence, this smartphone has all the elements that characterize a high-end smartphone, except the processor, which was designed for mid-range devices. However, this should not pose any particular performance problems. In addition, the price of OPPO Reno 2 is quite reasonable.
