Xiaomi today unveiled the Redmi K30 Pro, as well as an improved version called K30 Pro Zoom Edition. Both models, equipped with Snapdragon 865 and 5G modem, benefit from an identical technical sheet, except on one of the four main photosensors, the Zoom Edition taking advantage of a 30x hybrid zoom. These two ambitions will certainly overshadow the Mi 10 and the Mi 10 Pro.
In 2019, Redmi hit hard. The alternative brand of Xiaomi presented the K20 and the K20 Pro, two premium smartphones, one of which was equipped with a Snapdragon 855. The K20 Pro, which we know in France under the name of Mi 9T Pro, became during its cheapest launch of smartphones equipped with a Snapdragon 855. We were waiting for the K20 Pro’s successor, called by the leaks and the teasers K30 Pro . Especially since the K30, successor to the Mi 9T, had already impressed us well.
Today, the alternative brand has decided to unveil several products, including the Redmi. The other two products are a 98-inch TV and a connected speaker that looks like the Facebook Portal or the Amazon Echo Show. But what interests us is obviously the K30 Pro. Or rather “the” K30 Pro, since there are two. A classic version on the one hand and a “ Zoom Edition ” version on the other. Besides the price and the storage levels, there is only one technical difference between the two models. It is obviously located at the photo block level. We will come back to it.
6.67-inch screen with integrated fingerprint reader :
Let’s start with the rest of the datasheet. The K30 (and the K30 Zoom Edition) benefits from a 6.67 inch AMOLED Full HD + screen, compatible with DCI-P3, HDR10 +. The refresh rate of the display is 60 Hz. The touch layer rate is 180 Hz, which will appeal to players on mobile. Below the display is an optical fingerprint reader. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla 5 glass, a material you can also find on the back. The mobile is IP53 certified. It supports being wet, but not being submerged in water. On the upper edge hides a mechanical drawer housing the selfie sensor, a 20-megapixel model.
Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 clocked at 2.84 GHz. If the high-end chipset is victim of a heat stroke, the K30 Pro is equipped with a steam chamber and graphene heat pipes to dissipate heat. The integrated modem is 5G compatible as a Stand Alone or Non-Stand Alone modem. It is not specified whether millimeter frequencies are supported. The RAM is in LPDDR5 format and the storage in UFS 3.1 format. The battery offers a capacity of 4700 mAh. It is compatible with fast charging 33 watts (a charger offering this power is delivered in the box). Android 10 is the basis for MIUI 11.
Quadruple photosensor with 30x hybrid zoom :
So let’s go back to the photo. Both models are equipped with four rear sensors. Three of them are common to both models. First the main sensor, a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686. That of the Zoom Edition is equipped with an optical stabilizer. Then a 13-megapixel sensor with wide-angle lens (123 °). Finally a 2-megapixel sensor for the calculation of depths. The difference between the two models is the fourth sensor. That of the K30 Pro is a 5 megapixel model for proximity photography (macro). That of the K30 Pro Zoom Edition is an 8-megapixel model placed behind a telephoto lens with 30x hybrid zoom and optical stabilizer.
The Redmi K30 Pro and the K30 Pro Zoom Edition are available in three configurations: 6 + 128 GB (exclusive to the K30 Pro), 8 + 128 GB and 8 + 256 GB. They will arrive in China at the end of the month for a price that ranges from 2999 yuan (393 euros) for the K30 Pro with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage at 3999 yuan (525 euros) for the K30 Pro Zoom Edition with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It remains to be seen whether they will arrive in Europe. But something tells us that yes…
