Samsung Galaxy Watch 3: the big comeback of the rotating bezel
The Galaxy Watch 3 is official. Samsung has just presented its new connected watch at the Unpacked conference dedicated to the Galaxy Note 20. Unsurprisingly, the smartwatch signals the return of the physical rotating crown. The watch is powered by Tyzen OS in version 5.5 and as expected it has an ECG and drop detection feature like the Apple Watch Series 5.
It was the most anticipated event of the beginning of August. Samsung held its Unpacked conference on Wednesday. In addition to the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, the new Galaxy Watch 3, the other flagship expected during the conference has been formalized. After two sport-oriented Galaxy Watch Active, return to a more traditional design for the most dandies of us.
We remain on an appearance very close to the first generation Galaxy Watch. And after skipping the rotating bezel on the Galaxy Watch Active and Active 2, it is back as we have seen thanks to the string of leaks in recent weeks.
At this Wednesday’s Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung officially unveiled its new connected watch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. This new watch follows on from the Watch Active 2, but also borrows heavily from the first model launched in 2018.

Two formats were presented by Samsung, with slightly different characteristics regarding screen size or battery:
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 41mm: 1.2-inch diameter display, 43 hours of battery life, 247mAh battery, 20mm strap
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 45mm: 1.4 inch diameter display, 56 hours of battery life, 340mAh battery, 22mm strap
For both versions, however, Samsung has chosen screens with an identical definition, 360 x 360 pixels with a thickness of 11.1 mm similar for both sizes. On both sides, Samsung has also protected the display with Gorilla Glass DX. We will also find a Samsung Exynos 9110 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage and wireless charging.
Galaxy Watch 3: ECG, VO2 Max, A Plethora Of Tracking Features
The Watch 3 offers exciting new features. The sleep tracking function has been improved with better algorithms for more accurate data. Samsung is also announcing the availability of a function for measuring the level of oxygen in the blood (SpO2 and VO2 Max). As the rumors indicated, an EKG is also being announced like the latest Apple Watch.
But the feature will be available later this year. Samsung says it is working with different certification bodies to obtain the necessary permissions. The watch has another feature that the Apple Watch Series 5 already benefits from: fall detection. For the rest, the Watch 3 has several sensors on board: GPS (Glonass, Galileo) an accelerometer, an altimeter barometer, not to mention its heart rate monitor for continuous heart rate monitoring.
Several tracking features are dedicated to athletes and all those who care about maintaining their physical shape. More than 40 exercise trackers are available with automatic detection of the type of activity (walking, cycling, elliptical trainer, rower, abdominals, etc.). In addition to improved monitoring of sleep quality, the classic number of steps and calories burned, also access relaxation and guided breathing exercises, nutritional monitoring (caffeine, water) or even monitoring of menstrual cycles for women.
Galaxy Watch 3: Waterproof Up To 50, Two-Day Battery Life
Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 3 is waterproof to a depth of 50 meters thanks to its 5 ATM certification. The smartwatch comes in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm with straps measuring 20mm and 22mm respectively. Both versions feature a 16 million color Super AMOLED display with a definition of 360 x 360 pixels. The panel has Gorilla Glass DX + protection. It is therefore resistant to shocks, drops, but also scratches, while offering anti-reflective properties.
The Galaxy Watch 3 is equipped with a 247 mAh battery for the 41 mm version and 340 mAh for the 45 mm version. Both offer an autonomy of 43 hours and 56 hours, enough to easily last two days in both cases. Here is the technical sheet.
